シャイニースターV (Shiny Star V): Japanese Pokémon TCG Set Guide (S4a)

Shiny Star V (シャイニースターV) is a Japanese Pokémon TCG high-class set released on 20 November 2020. As the year-end premium release, it featured a massive Shiny Vault subset containing shiny (colour-variant) versions of popular Pokémon. Cards from S4a formed the foundation of the English Shining Fates expansion.

Set overview

S4a contains over 300 cards including its extensive Shiny Vault, making it one of the largest Japanese sets of the Sword & Shield era. Each booster box includes 10 packs of 10 cards. The set reprints key V and VMAX cards from 2020 alongside an enormous collection of shiny Pokémon with alternate colour palettes, designated by the S (Shiny) and SSR (Shiny Super Rare) rarities.

Key cards

The most coveted card is Charizard VMAX SSR (Shiny), featuring a black-skinned shiny Charizard in its Gigantamax form — one of the most valuable modern Pokémon cards. Charizard V SSR (Shiny) is equally sought after. The Shiny Vault includes dozens of shiny Pokémon at S rarity, such as Ditto V, Suicune, and Eiscue. VMAX cards at RRR include reprints of top Pokémon like Lapras VMAX, Toxtricity VMAX, and Eternatus VMAX. UR gold cards of Eternatus VMAX and gold Trainer items are the rarest pulls outside the Shiny Vault.

What is in the box

A Japanese S4a booster box contains 10 packs of 10 cards each. Every pack is loaded with value — the premium pack structure guarantees multiple rare pulls per pack, including shiny Pokémon and V/VMAX cards. Shiny Star V set the template for the high-class year-end releases that followed.
