25th ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION: Japanese Pokémon TCG Set Guide (S8a)

25th ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION is a special Japanese Pokémon TCG expansion released on 22 October 2021 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise. Rather than introducing new Pokémon mechanics, the set pays tribute to every generation of the TCG by reprinting iconic Pokémon from each era — all in holographic form.

Set overview

S8a contains 28 cards in the main set plus additional promo cards and secret rares. Each booster box includes 16 packs of 4 cards plus 1 Energy card per pack — every card in the set is holographic. The set features representative Pokémon from each TCG generation, from Base Set through Sword & Shield. Promo packs containing classic card reprints were distributed alongside booster purchases.

Key cards

The crown jewel is Mew UR (gold secret rare), alongside other UR gold cards. The set reprints beloved Pokémon including Pikachu, Charizard, Palkia, Dialga, Zacian, and Zamazenta in holographic versions with 25th anniversary branding. The promo pack cards featuring classic artwork reprints — such as the original Base Set designs — are particularly collectible.

What is in the box

A Japanese S8a booster box contains 16 packs, each with 4 holographic cards plus 1 holographic Energy card (5 cards total). The box retailed at ¥4,752. Collectors purchasing four packs received a bonus promo pack containing classic card reprints. This is a celebratory collector set with no competitive focus — it is prized purely for its nostalgic appeal and holographic presentation.
