Set overview

Star Birth is an expansion pack (拡張パック) in the Sword & Shield series. It contains 100 numbered cards plus additional secret rares at SR, HR and UR rarity. The set debuted the VSTAR mechanic, giving certain Pokémon V a once-per-game VSTAR Power — either a devastating attack or a game-changing Ability.

Key cards

Arceus VSTAR and Charizard VSTAR headline the set as the first VSTAR cards ever printed. Both appear at RRR rarity with textured holofoil. Other notable cards include Whimsicott VSTAR, Shaymin VSTAR, Kindler, Cheren’s Care, Magma Basin and Double Turbo Energy — a staple in many competitive decks.

What is in the box

A Japanese S9 booster box contains 30 packs with 5 cards per pack (150 cards total). Each pack can contain common, uncommon, rare, holo rare, or ultra rare cards. The suggested retail price at launch was ¥4,950 (tax included).
