Set overview

Collection Sun and Collection Moon were released simultaneously, each containing approximately 60 main-numbered cards plus secret rares. Collection Sun featured Solgaleo and sun-themed Pokémon, while Collection Moon centred on Lunala and moon-themed Pokémon. The sets introduced the GX mechanic — powerful Pokémon with a once-per-game GX attack — replacing the Mega Evolution and BREAK mechanics of the XY era. Booster packs contained five cards each.

Key cards

Solgaleo-GX and Lunala-GX headlined as the mascot Legendary Pokémon of the Sun & Moon video games. Decidueye-GX, Incineroar-GX, and Primarina-GX debuted as the Alola starter GX evolutions. Espeon-GX and Umbreon-GX represented the popular Eevee evolution line.

Lapras-GX, Lurantis-GX, and Tauros-GX provided early competitive options. Professor Kukui, Lillie, and Team Skull Grunt introduced new Supporter cards for the generation. The Hyper Rare (rainbow) versions of GX cards appeared for the first time, establishing the premium rarity tier that would define the Sun & Moon era.

What is in the box

Each Japanese SM1 booster box contains 30 packs of 5 cards. Collection Sun and Collection Moon were sold as separate booster boxes. The combined pool of 146 cards includes main-numbered cards, SR (Full Art GX), and HR (Hyper Rare) secret rares.
