Forbidden Light brought Ultra Necrozma into the spotlight — a Dragon-type GX formed when Necrozma absorbs a Legendary Pokémon. The set also introduced competitively relevant GX cards across multiple types and included Prism Star cards, the Sun & Moon era's unique one-per-deck rarity.

GX cards: Ultra Necrozma-GX (Dragon type) headlines the set with devastating attacks fuelled by Psychic and Metal energy. Palkia-GX (Water type), Greninja-GX (Water type), Naganadel-GX (Psychic type), Zygarde-GX (Fighting type), and Yveltal-GX (Dark type) expand the GX roster significantly.
Prism Star cards: Special once-per-deck cards with unique foil patterns, including Legendary and Mythical Pokémon.
Secret Rares: SR Full Art GX cards, HR Rainbow Rares, and UR gold trainer and energy cards. The Ultra Necrozma-GX HR is the top chase card.
