One year in, and the drums of liberation

Awakening of the New Era (新時代の主役, OP-05) is the Japanese One Piece Card Game booster pack released on 26 August 2023, and it is the set that marks the game’s first anniversary. A pack holds 6 cards. The official list counts 127 types.

The 119 numbered cards break down into 6 Leaders, 45 Commons, 30 Uncommons, 26 Rares, 10 Super Rares and 2 Secret Rares — Kaido and Monkey.D.Luffy. On top of those sit 6 special cards, one first-anniversary special card and one DON!! card. Parallels run deeper here than in the sets around it: 27 of them carry OP05 numbers, and a 28th belongs to the anniversary card. What you buy here is the Japanese print, in the Japanese box.

02 · The story

“Set sail for the card game’s ‘New Era’!!”

The official page organises the set as six numbered points, and they read like a list of firsts. A card newly drawn by Eiichiro Oda appears for the first time. Characters from the Skypiea arc and the Revolutionary Army join in earnest. Gear 5 Luffy makes its long-awaited appearance. Manga-art Leader parallels come back. SP cards appear again. And for the first time the set contains three Super Parallel cards.

Those three Super Parallels are the second parallel of Trafalgar Law (OP05-069), of Eustass“Captain”Kid (OP05-074) and of Monkey.D.Luffy (OP05-119) — all printed on a manga background in manga art. The Oda card is ST01-012 Monkey.D.Luffy, the first-anniversary special, and the official list carries it twice: once plain, once with a gold-stamped signature. Six Leaders open the set, one per colour pairing: Sabo in red/black, Belo Betty in red/yellow, Donquixote Rosinante in green/blue, Sakazuki in blue/black, Monkey.D.Luffy in purple and Enel in yellow, each with a manga-art parallel. The six special cards are 和柄 prints illustrated by S-KINOKO, one for each colour.
