01 · What is this set

Everything for a first battle, in one box

Starter Set MEGA Mega Gengar ex (スターターセットMEGA メガゲンガーex, set mark MBG) is a ready-to-play deck Pokémon released in Japan on 5 September 2025 for the MEGA series, on the same day as Starter Set MEGA Mega Diancie ex. It is built around Mega Gengar ex and Darkness-type Pokémon.

The box holds a 60-card deck, a playmat, a Pokémon coin, a sheet of damage counters and markers, a player's guide and a rules booklet. What you buy here is the Japanese print, in the Japanese box.

02 · The story

One full-art Haunter in every box

The deck counts 21 numbered cards, 001/021 to 021/021, plus 15 basic Darkness Energy. A 22nd card sits above the count: Haunter 022/021, a full-art (AR) print. Every box has exactly one — it is not a random pull.

Around it, the deck runs the Gastly–Haunter–Mega Gengar ex line with Murkrow and Honchkrow, Sableye, Absol, Eternatus and Tatsugiri, and Trainer cards that competitive players already use: four Lillie's Determination, four Iris's Fighting Spirit, two Buddy-Buddy Poffin, two Boss's Orders and the ACE SPEC Prime Catcher.
