OP vs EB vs PRB: Choosing a Japanese One Piece Booster Box

Choosing a Japanese One Piece booster box starts with the characters and artwork you want to collect. OP, EB and PRB identify different product series, but the letters do not tell you which box you will enjoy most. This guide compares the buying decisions behind them, using specific Japanese releases rather than assuming that every box has the same contents.

OP, EB and PRB at a glance

Series What to examine Japanese example
OP — main booster series A particular expansion's characters, theme and card list OP-13: 24 packs, 6 cards per pack
EB — Extra Booster The additional expansion's contents and your target cards EB-01 Memorial Collection: 6 cards per pack
PRB — Premium Booster The mix of returning cards, artwork and new contents PRB-02: 10 packs, 10 cards per pack

These are individual product examples, not universal specifications. The OP-13 and PRB-02 box quantities come from Bandai's official 2025 event product specifications. We use that source for packaging details, not its event prices or promotional offers.

When should you choose OP?

Start with OP when you want to explore a particular expansion: its featured characters, artwork and potential place in your binder. For example, OP-13 Carrying On His Will highlights Luffy, Ace and Sabo for the game's third anniversary, as shown on the official product page.

Ask whether you enjoy the wider card selection, even without pulling its most famous card. Look through ordinary cards and alternate illustrations before choosing. The PulloraX magazine provides individual set guides so you can explore each expansion separately.

When should you choose EB?

EB means Extra Booster. It is a separate product with its own code and card list, rather than an extra pack automatically included with an OP box. Bandai introduced EB-01 Memorial Collection with support for existing decks; its official specification lists six cards per pack.

For collecting, start with the contents. Find the characters that interest you and check their versions in the set list. The word Extra is not a reason on its own to buy a box, and a lower set number does not tell you how much you will enjoy it. If you collect with a child, choose a few favourite characters together before comparing boxes.

When should you choose PRB?

PRB identifies Premium Boosters. PRB-02 brings back earlier cards alongside new cards. Bandai confirms an SR or higher in every pack of this particular product. That is a rarity guarantee, not a promise of a specific card or Manga Rare. Explore the artwork and card list in our PRB-02 set guide.

Consider PRB-02 if you want to explore a selection spanning earlier expansions. Look at what you already own and what would add interest to your collection. A returning card can have different versions, so compare the exact illustration and printing you want.

Four checks before buying

  1. Identify the edition: confirm Japanese language, the intended set code and whether the listing is for a box or a single pack.
  2. Compare the opening experience: in these examples, OP-13 gives you more packs to open, while PRB-02 has more cards per pack. Choose the pace you prefer.
  3. Read beyond the quantities: more cards do not automatically mean more of the cards you want. A complete set list does not describe the guaranteed contents of one box.
  4. Set a total budget: compare the box price and the order cost for your destination, and check the packaging condition on the product page.

Questions before you open

Will one box complete the set?

Do not infer that from box size or the number of different cards in the checklist. Contents are random and duplicates are possible. Plan around the cards you enjoy, without assuming that one box will supply a complete collection.

Which series should be my first box?

Shortlist two or three sets, explore their card lists and choose the selection you would enjoy opening. No single series suits every collector. Browse the current Japanese One Piece booster boxes, then match your choice to your budget and favourite characters.
